Large angelfish are striking, showpiece fish with bold personalities and a generally semi-aggressive temperament, especially towards other angels or similarly shaped species. Most are considered not fully reef-safe, as many will nip at LPS, soft corals and clams, so they’re often better suited to fish-only or FOWLR systems. Due to their size and constant activity, they require spacious, well-filtered aquariums, typically 400–500 litres as a minimum with larger volumes for big species such as emperors and queens. Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter, stable water quality and robust tank mates that can handle their presence without being bullied.
