Rainbowfish are peaceful, active schooling fish that really come into their own when kept in groups of six or more, where their colours intensify and their confidence grows. They’re ideal for larger community aquariums with other non-aggressive tank mates, and do especially well in planted tanks with plenty of open swimming space. A minimum aquarium size of around 120 litres is recommended for a small group, as most species grow to a decent size and appreciate length to cruise back and forth. Rainbowfish thrive in clean, well-oxygenated water with good filtration and a varied diet of quality flakes, pellets and frozen foods to keep their colours at their brightest.
