Damsels and Chromis are hardy, active fish that add plenty of movement and colour to a marine aquarium, making them popular choices for newer and experienced hobbyists alike. Most species are reef-safe and won’t bother corals, but many damsels can be territorial, especially in smaller tanks, whereas Chromis are generally more peaceful and do best in small groups. A minimum aquarium size of around 100 litres is recommended for a small group, with larger systems helping to spread out any aggression. Provide plenty of rockwork, hiding spots and open swimming space, and avoid housing them with very shy or delicate fish that may be intimidated by their constant activity.
