Dwarf angelfish are active, colourful centrepieces with semi-aggressive personalities, especially towards their own kind or similar-shaped fish. They’re generally classed as “reef with caution” – many individuals behave well, but some may nip at LPS corals, clams and certain soft corals, particularly if underfed. A minimum aquarium size of around 150–200 litres is recommended for a single dwarf angel, with larger, mature systems needed if you plan to keep more than one species. They thrive in tanks with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding, strong filtration, and a varied diet rich in algae and high-quality marine foods to help keep them healthy and reduce the likelihood of coral nipping.
