Clownfish are hardy, semi-aggressive little characters best kept as a single pair, as they can become territorial, especially once settled or hosting an anemone or coral. They are generally reef-safe and won’t nip at corals, making them ideal for most reef and community setups. A minimum aquarium size of around 80–100 litres is suitable for a pair, with stable water parameters and plenty of rockwork to establish a territory. While they don’t need an anemone to thrive, providing suitable host corals or a natural anemone in a mature system can encourage fascinating natural behaviour.
