Sansai Japanese Koi are three-year-old koi, usually showing a more refined body shape with colours and patterns starting to stabilise, though many still have good growth and development ahead. They are peaceful, confident pond fish that do best in mature, well-filtered ponds with strong aeration and stable water quality. A minimum pond volume of around 3,500–4,500 litres is recommended for a small group, with good swimming space and regular maintenance to handle their size and waste. Sansai koi thrive on a high-quality, balanced diet aimed at both growth and colour, and are best kept with other similarly sized koi to reduce stress and competition at feeding time.
