Anthias are peaceful, highly active schooling fish that add constant motion and colour to the water column, making them ideal for lively reef displays. They are generally reef-safe and leave corals alone, but can be a little feisty with each other, so they do best in harems (one male with several females) in a suitably sized tank. A minimum aquarium size of around 250–300 litres is recommended for a small group, with strong flow, excellent oxygenation and stable, mature water conditions. Anthias have fast metabolisms and thrive when fed small, varied meals several times per day, so they’re best suited to systems with strong filtration and aquarists who can keep up with their feeding needs.
