The Singapore Angel is an elegant and distinctive marine angelfish recognised for its pale cream to yellow body, dark facial banding and contrasting darker rear section. Its refined markings and relatively compact adult size make it an attractive choice for established marine aquariums, although it can be shy when first introduced. Generally peaceful to moderately territorial, this species is best kept in a mature aquarium with plenty of rockwork, sheltered areas and a varied diet.

The Singapore Angel occurs throughout tropical Indo-Pacific reef environments and is associated with coral reefs, rocky reef areas and sheltered lagoons.

It typically remains close to reef structure where it can graze, shelter within caves and search rock surfaces for food.

The Singapore Angel is generally peaceful towards unrelated marine fish but may become territorial towards other angelfish or similarly shaped species.

It can be somewhat shy when first introduced and benefits from calm surroundings and plenty of secure hiding places.

Diet:

The Singapore Angel naturally feeds on a mixture of algae, sponges, small benthic organisms and other reef-associated foods.

In the aquarium, offer a varied diet including angelfish preparations containing sponge, frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped prawn, marine algae and quality marine pellets.

Several smaller meals throughout the day are beneficial, particularly while the fish is becoming established.

Minimum Tank Size:
Approximately 300 litres

A mature aquarium with substantial rockwork, sheltered areas and open swimming space is recommended.

Behaviour & Activity:
The Singapore Angel spends much of its time moving around rockwork and exploring caves, overhangs and reef surfaces.

Newly introduced specimens may remain hidden for extended periods before becoming confident enough to swim openly.

Provide plenty of caves and secure retreat areas together with open swimming room.

Once settled, it can become an active and attractive display fish.

Reef Safe:
With Caution

The Singapore Angel should be considered reef safe with caution.

It may nip at fleshy LPS corals, soft corals, zoanthids or clam mantles, although individual behaviour can vary considerably.

For this reason, it is best suited to carefully planned reef aquariums where some risk to sessile invertebrates is acceptable.

Special Requirements or Care Notes:
Provide a mature marine aquarium with plenty of established rockwork and natural grazing surfaces.

This species can be shy during acclimation, so avoid highly aggressive or excessively boisterous tankmates.

A varied diet containing both sponge-based and algae-based foods alongside meaty marine foods is important for long-term health.

Monitor newly introduced specimens carefully to ensure they begin feeding consistently.

Avoid keeping multiple similar angelfish together unless the aquarium provides substantial space and separate territories.

Stable water quality, good filtration and regular feeding are important for maintaining healthy body condition and strong colouration.
