Corydoras are peaceful, bottom-dwelling catfish that love to rummage through the substrate in small groups, making them perfect for community aquariums. They should always be kept in shoals of at least six of the same species, which helps them feel secure and show natural behaviour. A minimum aquarium size of around 60 litres is suitable for a small group, with soft, smooth sand or fine gravel to protect their barbels, and plenty of hiding spots made from plants, wood and caves. Corydoras thrive in clean, well-oxygenated water with gentle to moderate flow, and do best on a varied diet of sinking pellets, wafers and small frozen foods to complement any leftovers they scavenge.
