Blennies are characterful, perch-and-hop reef fish that spend much of their time sitting in rock crevices and grazing. Most of the commonly kept species are peaceful to mildly territorial and are generally reef-safe, though a few individuals may nip at fleshy corals or clam mantles if underfed. They’re ideal for smaller to mid-sized marine tanks from around 80–120 litres upwards, provided there’s plenty of live rock with holes and ledges to call home. Blennies thrive in established aquariums with good algae growth to pick at, a secure lid (they can jump), and tank mates that aren’t overly aggressive or likely to bully a more sedentary fish.
