SPS (Small Polyp Stony) corals are the “high-performance” end of reef keeping, prized for their intricate branching shapes, fast growth and intense colours. They generally demand strong, stable lighting, high, turbulent flow and very consistent water chemistry with low but not stripped-out nutrients. Good control of alkalinity, calcium and magnesium is essential, often via dosing or a reactor, and they’re best kept in mature, stable systems. For reefers ready to step up, SPS corals can transform a tank into a vibrant, densely structured miniature reef.
