Most are peaceful and completely reef-safe, helping to graze algae, sift sand or filter the water, but many are sensitive to poor water quality, copper and sudden parameter swings. Smaller species can be kept in nano systems from around 60 litres, while larger clams and more demanding molluscs are best in mature, well-established reef tanks with strong lighting, stable calcium/alkalinity and gentle to moderate flow. Always research individual species for compatibility with tank mates.
