Description

A red montipora acre, or Red Plating Montipora, is a species of stony coral popular in the reef aquarium hobby, known for its ability to grow into flat plates or branches and its vibrant red color. To keep it healthy, provide strong, random water flow to prevent detritus buildup, place it in high-light conditions in the upper areas of the tank, and ensure stable water parameters. It is considered a relatively forgiving SPS coral, making it suitable for intermediate aquarists.

Key Care Requirements

Lighting: Red montipora require moderate to high lighting conditions, as they are often found in shallow waters in the wild. Place them near the top of the aquarium where they can receive the most intense light.

Water Flow: Strong, randomized water flow is crucial for Red Plating Montipora to prevent debris from settling on their flat surfaces and smothering them.

Placement: Due to their plating growth form, they are best placed at the top of the tank where they can receive excellent light and flow.

Tank Environment: Like other stony corals (SPS corals), Red Montipora are sensitive to water quality changes, though they are more forgiving than some other SPS corals like Acropora. They thrive in the stable conditions of an established reef tank.

Monitoring: A healthy Red Montipora will display vibrant color and show signs of frequent colony growth. The absence of algae on the coral's surface is also a good sign of its health.
