Description

Orange Skunk Clown (Amphiprion akallopisos)

The Orange Skunk Clown is an attractive and distinctive marine clownfish recognised for its warm orange body colour and narrow white stripe running along the top of the body from the head towards the tail. Peaceful to moderately territorial and generally reef safe, it makes an excellent addition to established marine aquariums. Like other clownfish, it may form a close association with suitable host anemones, although an anemone is not essential for successful aquarium care.

Common Name:
Orange Skunk Clown, Orange Skunk Clownfish

Scientific Name (Latin):
Amphiprion akallopisos

Maximum Size:
Approximately 10–11 cm

Water Type:
Marine

Origin / Natural Habitat:
The Orange Skunk Clown occurs in tropical Indo-Pacific reef environments and is typically associated with coral reefs, lagoons and sheltered reef areas.

In the wild, it is usually found living in close association with host anemones, using them for protection while remaining within a relatively small established territory.

Water Parameters:
Temperature: 24–26°C
pH Range: 8.1–8.4
Salinity: SG 1.024–1.026
Nitrate: Low and stable
Ammonia/Nitrite: 0 ppm

Temperament:
Peaceful to Semi-Aggressive

The Orange Skunk Clown is generally peaceful towards unrelated marine fish but may become territorial around its preferred shelter or host anemone.

Established pairs can become more defensive, particularly when breeding or protecting a chosen territory.

Diet:
Omnivore

Offer a varied diet including quality marine pellets and flakes, frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped prawn and other suitable marine foods.

Algae-based and spirulina-enriched foods can also be included regularly to provide additional dietary variety.

Minimum Tank Size:
Approximately 100 litres

A larger aquarium is preferable where the fish will be maintained with multiple tankmates or as an established pair.

Behaviour & Activity:
The Orange Skunk Clown is an active but relatively site-attached fish that often spends much of its time around a preferred section of rockwork or host anemone.

Pairs may establish a strong bond, with the larger female becoming the dominant fish.

Provide secure rockwork, sheltered areas and sufficient open swimming space.

Reef Safe:
Reef Safe

The Orange Skunk Clown is generally considered reef safe and does not normally damage healthy corals, clams or established ornamental invertebrates.

Its main compatibility consideration is territorial behaviour rather than coral safety.

Special Requirements or Care Notes:
Provide a mature marine aquarium with stable water chemistry, good filtration and plenty of secure rockwork.

A host anemone is not essential, although established fish may associate closely with suitable anemones when present.

If keeping a pair, it is best to allow a clear size difference to develop, with the larger fish becoming female.

Avoid combining established territorial pairs with very timid fish in small aquariums.

Regular varied feeding and stable water quality help maintain strong colouration and healthy body condition.

A secure lid is recommended, particularly during acclimation.

Suitable for:
Beginner to Intermediate
