Description
Leptastrea is a hardy, fast-growing encrusting LPS coral, ideal for beginners to intermediate hobbyists. They thrive in low-to-moderate lighting and moderate, indirect water flow. Place them on rocks or substrate, leaving room for growth as they prefer to encrust rather than branch.
Lighting: Moderate is best, but they can adapt to lower light; avoid direct, intense light to prevent bleaching.
Flow: Moderate water movement is necessary to prevent detritus from settling on the coral.
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic, but they benefit from weekly feeding with meaty foods like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, or phytoplankton.
Water Chemistry: High stability is required for proper skeletal growth.
Aggression: While not highly aggressive, they can extend tentacles at night; provide space, as they can sting nearby corals.
Placement: Lower to middle, on rockwork or in the sand bed to encourage growth.
