Mushroom corals (corallimorphs) are hardy, forgiving soft corals that add bold colour and texture, often thriving in spots where fussier corals struggle. They generally prefer low to moderate light and gentle to moderate flow, making them ideal for lower rockwork, shaded areas and quieter corners of the tank. Mushrooms are reef-safe but can spread and gently encroach on neighbours over time, so it’s worth giving them a bit of space when placing them. They tolerate slightly higher nutrients than many corals and will happily take small meaty foods, making them an excellent choice for both newer reef keepers and established mixed reefs.
