Goniopora (flowerpot corals) are eye-catching LPS corals with dense fields of waving polyps, but they’re more demanding than many other “beginner” corals. They prefer moderate light and gentle to moderate, indirect flow that keeps their polyps swaying without being blasted. Long-term success usually requires very stable, mature reef systems with good nutrient balance, consistent alkalinity/calcium/magnesium, and regular feeding of fine particulate foods. Goniopora are generally peaceful but can be sensitive to both aggression and poor water quality, so give them a little space from stinging neighbours and avoid big parameter swings.
