Cyphastrea are hardy, encrusting LPS corals that form colourful, textured mats over rockwork, perfect for adding detail to shaded or awkward areas of the reef. They generally prefer low to moderate light and gentle to moderate flow, making them far more forgiving than many high-demand stony corals. Cyphastrea tolerate slightly higher nutrients and minor parameter swings, but still appreciate stable alkalinity, calcium and magnesium for steady growth. With sensible placement and good basic reef conditions, they’ll slowly encrust and create a vibrant, patterned “skin” over your rock, making them an ideal choice for both newer and experienced reef keepers.
