Blasto (Blastomussa) are fleshy, polyp-based LPS corals that form tight clusters of colourful “heads”, making them perfect for compact, high-impact frags and small colonies. They generally prefer low to moderate light and gentle to moderate flow, which helps their tissue stay puffed up and show off their colour. Blastos are relatively peaceful compared to some LPS, but still appreciate a little space from more aggressive neighbours. In a mature, stable reef with sensible placement and occasional target feeding of small meaty foods, they’re hardy, rewarding and ideal for both newer and experienced reef keepers.
