Description
Mack Snow 66% Het Eclipse & Tremper Albino Male Leopard Gecko
- Housing
- Enclosure: A 20-gallon long terrarium is suitable for a single adult leopard gecko, providing adequate space for movement and enrichment.
- Substrate: Use paper towels, reptile carpet, or tile. Avoid loose substrates like sand to prevent the risk of impaction, a concern for all leopard geckos, especially those with specific genetic morphs.
- Hides: Equip the enclosure with a minimum of three hides - one on the warm side, one on the cool side, and a moist hide to assist with shedding.
2. Lighting and Temperature
- Temperature: Create a thermal gradient with a warm side at 88-90°F (31-32°C) and a cool side around 75-80°F (24-27°C). An under-tank heating pad is recommended to provide belly heat, which aids in digestion.
- Lighting: Leopard geckos are nocturnal, so UVB lighting is not strictly necessary. However, a low-intensity UVB light can support overall health and wellbeing. Be mindful of light sensitivity due to the Eclipse trait; avoid overly bright or direct light.
3. Humidity and Water
- Humidity: Keep the enclosure's humidity around 30-40%. The moist hide is crucial for maintaining appropriate humidity for shedding.
- Water: Provide a shallow water dish with fresh water at all times, ensuring it is clean and accessible.
4. Diet and Supplementation
- Feeding: Offer a diet of live insects, such as crickets, mealworms, and waxworms. The prey should be gut-loaded (fed nutritious food) prior to feeding.
- Supplements: Dust the insects with calcium powder (with D3 if not using UVB lighting) 2-3 times a week and with a multivitamin once a week to prevent nutritional deficiencies.
5. Handling and Interaction
- Acclimatisation: Allow your gecko to acclimate to its new environment for a few weeks before regular handling to reduce stress.
- Handling: Once acclimated, you can gently handle your gecko for short periods. Be cautious and supportive, ensuring to read its behavior and stress signals.
6. Health and Maintenance
- Monitoring: Regularly check your gecko for signs of good health, such as clear eyes, a responsive demeanor, and a healthy appetite. Pay special attention to shedding, ensuring it is complete and assisting if necessary.
Special Considerations
- Genetic Traits: The Mack Snow morph is known for its unique coloration that changes with age, while the Het Eclipse trait may influence eye color and sensitivity. The Het Tremper Albino trait could affect pigmentation. Monitor eye health and skin condition closely.
- Light Sensitivity: Given the potential Eclipse genetics, ensure your gecko has plenty of shade options to retreat from direct light.
