Grammostola Actaeon (Brazilian Wooly Black) 2cm Sling - Image is for illustration purposes only!
Housing
- Enclosure: For a 2cm sling, a small enclosure like a clear plastic vial, deli container, or any small terrarium with a secure lid is suitable. The enclosure should allow for proper ventilation while keeping humidity levels consistent.
- Substrate: Use a moisture-retaining substrate such as coconut fiber, sphagnum moss, or a mix thereof. The substrate should be deep enough (2-3 inches) to allow for slight burrowing and to maintain humidity.
- Humidity: Grammostola actaeon slings thrive in moderate humidity levels, around 70-80%. This can be maintained by misting the enclosure lightly every few days. Avoid over-wetting the substrate to prevent mold growth.
- Temperature: A comfortable temperature range for your sling is 24-28°C (75-82°F). If your home is cooler, gently heating one side of the enclosure can help create a temperature gradient, allowing the sling to choose its preferred warmth level.
Feeding
- Diet: Feed your Brazilian Wooly Black sling small prey items such as pinhead crickets, flightless fruit flies, or micro roaches once or twice a week. The prey should not be larger than the sling's abdomen.
- Water: While slings will often obtain enough moisture from their food and the enclosure's humidity, providing a shallow water dish or misting one side of the enclosure will ensure they stay hydrated. Be cautious of over-watering.
General Care
- Molting: Your sling will molt several times as it grows. During molting periods, it may refuse food and become less active. Increase humidity slightly during this time and refrain from feeding until a few days after the molt is complete, to allow the new exoskeleton to harden.
- Handling: It's best to minimize handling at this stage to reduce stress and the risk of injury. If necessary, use a soft brush or gentle scoop method for moving the sling during enclosure maintenance.
Social Needs
- Grammostola actaeon tarantulas are solitary creatures and should be kept individually to avoid stress or aggression from cohabitation.
