Description
Diet
White's Tree Frogs are carnivorous and primarily consume live insects. A diet consisting mainly of gut-loaded (fed with a nutritious diet 24-48 hours before being offered to your frog) or dusted (with calcium or vitamins) crickets should suffice. Other suitable feeder insects include moths, grasshoppers, and cockroaches. Earthworms and pinky mice can be offered as occasional treats due to their high fat content. It's important to avoid overfeeding and to ensure feeder insects are free from pesticides.
Habitat and Tank Setup
A vertically oriented terrarium is recommended, as these frogs enjoy climbing. For one to four frogs, a 20-gallon tank is the minimum size suggested. The tank should include features like branches, live or artificial plants, and perches for climbing and hiding. Secure all perches properly to support the weight of your frog. The enclosure should be escape-proof with adequate ventilation.
Temperature and Humidity
Maintain daytime temperatures between 75-85°F, allowing a drop to around 65-75°F at night. Humidity levels should be kept between 70-80%, which can be achieved by daily misting of the enclosure. Live plants can help maintain humidity levels. An under-tank heater can be used to maintain appropriate night temperatures.
Lighting
While White's Tree Frogs are nocturnal and do not require as much UV light as diurnal species, a small amount of UVB lighting (5-6%) can be beneficial. Ensure a cycle of 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness to mimic their natural environment.
Water
Provide a large, shallow water bowl with chlorine-free water for the frog to soak in. Change the water daily to maintain cleanliness.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular spot cleaning is necessary to remove feces and uneaten food. Perform a more thorough cleaning every two weeks, which includes replacing the substrate and cleaning the terrarium with frog-safe products. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could harm your frog.
Handling
White's Tree Frogs have a calm demeanor and can tolerate gentle handling. Always wash your hands before and after handling to prevent the transfer of harmful substances.
