Western PacificColouration of juvenile and adult different, also individuals can quickly change colour from longitudinal bands to vertical banding. A xanthic form is common in some areas. Juveniles live among seagrass and in soft coral areas, adults from shallow reef flats to deep drop offs, and from coastal waters to outer reefs, mostly solitarily, sometimes in loose pairs.
