Widespread Indo-West Pacific, but some geographical variation. Found on clear coastal to outer reef habitats, forming loose schools along upper regions of deep drop-offs. Readily identified by its colour and in all stages, from juvenile to adults, the lips are blue and 'blue lipped unicorn' would be a more appropriate name. Like most unicorns, it can change colour dramatically and quickly when coming from open water to visit reefs to sleep or when visiting cleaning stations. Length to 55cm. excluding filaments on caudal fin.
