Description
Hypo Het Blizzard, Patternless & Eclipse Female Leopard Gecko
- Housing
- Enclosure: A 20-gallon long tank is ideal for an adult, providing space for exercise and exploration.
- Substrate: Opt for reptile carpet, paper towels, or newspaper. Avoid loose substrates to prevent impaction, especially important for morphs that might be more prone to health issues.
- Hides: Provide multiple hides (warm, cool, and moist) to support shedding and stress reduction. The moist hide is crucial for aiding shedding, especially for geckos with sensitive skin like the Eclipse morph.
2. Lighting and Temperature
- Temperature Gradient: Maintain a warm side of 88-90°F (31-32°C) and a cool side of 75-80°F (24-27°C). Use under-tank heaters and/or basking lights but avoid heat rocks.
- Lighting: No special UVB lighting is required due to their nocturnal nature, but a low-level UVB light can benefit their health and well-being.
3. Humidity
- Levels: Aim for 30-40% humidity, essential for preventing shedding issues, which are crucial for morphs with sensitive skin.
- Monitoring: Use a hygrometer and adjust humidity through misting and the moist hide.
4. Diet and Supplementation
- Feeding: Offer live insects such as crickets, mealworms, and occasionally waxworms. Gut-load prey 24 hours before feeding.
- Supplements: Dust food with calcium powder 2-3 times a week and a vitamin supplement once a week to prevent nutritional deficiencies.
5. Water
- Availability: Always have fresh water available in a shallow dish. Change it daily to ensure cleanliness and encourage hydration.
6. Handling and Socialization
- Gentle Handling: Begin with short handling sessions once they’re accustomed to their new home, usually after a few weeks to reduce stress.
- Observation: Pay close attention to your gecko's body language and behavior to understand their comfort levels with interaction.
7. Health and Maintenance
- Check-ups: Regularly inspect your gecko for signs of health issues, such as difficulties in shedding, lethargy, or changes in appetite.
Special Considerations for Morphs
- Eye Sensitivity: Eclipse morphs may have increased sensitivity to light due to their eye pigmentation. Ensure the lighting is not too bright and provide plenty of shade.
- Skin Care: Given their genetic backgrounds, these morphs may require more attentive care during shedding periods. Ensure the moist hide is always adequately humidified.
