Description
Homoeomma Chilensis (Chile Flame) 1cm Sling- Image is for illustration purposes only!
Housing
- Enclosure: A small, secure container like a plastic vial or deli cup with adequate ventilation is perfect for a sling of this size. The enclosure should be small enough to ensure the sling can easily find its food but large enough for a small hide and a water dish.
- Substrate: Use a moisture-retaining substrate such as coconut fiber or peat moss. Keep the substrate lightly moist by misting it every few days, allowing for slight burrowing and maintaining a stable humidity level.
- Humidity: Homoeomma chilensis thrives in moderate humidity, around 60-70%. Achieve this by misting one side of the enclosure periodically, ensuring not to overdo it to avoid mold growth.
- Temperature: Maintain a temperature range of 20-25°C (68-77°F). This species does well at room temperature for most households without the need for additional heating.
Feeding
- Diet: Feed your sling small prey items like pinhead crickets, flightless fruit flies, or small roaches once a week. Ensure the prey is not larger than the sling's abdomen to avoid any risk of harm.
- Water: Provide a shallow water dish if possible or mist one side of the enclosure lightly to create water droplets for the sling to drink from, ensuring the sling has access to moisture.
General Care
- Molting: Your sling will molt as it grows. During molting, it may refuse food and become more reclusive. Increase humidity slightly during this period and refrain from feeding until a few days after the molt is complete, allowing the new exoskeleton to harden.
- Handling: Minimise handling to reduce stress on the tarantula. If necessary, use a soft brush or gentle scoop method for moving the sling during maintenance activities.
Social Needs
- Homoeomma chilensis are solitary creatures and should be kept alone. They do not require social interaction with other tarantulas and can become stressed or aggressive if housed with others.
