Housing
- Enclosure: A 10-gallon terrarium is suitable for a single sub-adult Heterometrus spinnifer. They are terrestrial but like to burrow and climb, so provide both floor space and some height.
- Substrate: Use a deep layer (4-6 inches) of moist coconut fiber, peat moss, or a mix. The substrate should be kept moist to maintain high humidity, which is crucial for this species.
- Humidity: Maintain high humidity levels, around 70-80%, by misting the enclosure regularly. However, ensure that the enclosure is well-ventilated to prevent mold growth.
- Temperature: A temperature range of 24-28°C (75-82°F) during the day, with a slight drop at night, is ideal. This can be achieved with a heat mat placed on the side of the terrarium or a low-wattage heat lamp.

Feeding
- Diet: Feed your scorpion every 2-3 days with a diet consisting of insects like crickets, roaches, and mealworms. The prey size should be appropriate to the size of the scorpion.
- Water: Provide a shallow water dish with fresh water at all times. The scorpion will drink from it, and it also helps maintain the enclosure's humidity.

General Care
- Shelter: Offer hiding places such as cork bark, hollow logs, or half-buried flower pots to mimic natural hiding spots and reduce stress.
- Handling: It’s best to minimize handling as the Malay Forest Scorpion can be defensive and might sting or pinch if threatened. Use protective gloves if handling is necessary.
- Social Needs: Heterometrus spinnifer can be more tolerant of conspecifics than other scorpion species, but caution should be exercised if attempting to house them communally. Monitor for aggression, especially in smaller enclosures or with inconsistent food availability.

Health and Maintenance
- Cleaning: Regularly remove uneaten food, mold, and feces to prevent bacterial and fungal growth. Perform a full substrate change every few months or as needed to maintain cleanliness and health.
- Observation: Regularly check your scorpion for signs of stress, illness, or injury, such as refusal to eat, lethargy, or visible wounds.
