Description
CB Shield-Tailed Agama (Xenagama Taylori)
Habitat and Enclosure:
1. Enclosure Size: A 20-30 gallon tank is suitable for a single Shield-Tailed Agama, with more space required for multiple individuals.
2. Temperature: Provide a temperature gradient with a basking spot of around 95-100°F and a cooler area around 75-80°F. Nighttime temperatures can drop to the low 70s°F.
3. Lighting: UVB lighting is crucial for Vitamin D3 synthesis and overall health. Provide 10-12 hours of light daily.
4. Substrate: Use a sand or sand/soil mix to allow for natural digging behavior.
5. Environmental Enrichment: Include hiding spots, rocks for basking, and a gradient of temperatures within the enclosure.
Diet:
1. Primary Diet: They are insectivores. Feed a diet of crickets, mealworms, and other suitable insects.
2. Supplements: Dust the insects with calcium and vitamin D3 supplements regularly.
3. Feeding Frequency: Feed adults every other day and juveniles daily.
Special Considerations:
- Shield-Tailed Agamas are burrowers and need an environment that allows for this behaviour.
- Ensure a low humidity environment to mimic their natural arid habitat.
