Description
Birupes Simoroxigorum (Neon Blue Leg) 2cm Sling -Image is for illustration purposes only!
Housing- Enclosure: For a 2cm sling, a small enclosure like a clear plastic vial or deli container works well. The space should be relatively small to ensure the sling doesn't have difficulty finding its food. A container about 3-4 times the size of the spider in both height and diameter is ideal.
- Substrate: Use a moisture-retentive substrate like coconut fiber or peat moss. The substrate should be deep enough to allow for burrowing, about 2-3 inches.
- Humidity: Maintain high humidity levels, around 70-80%, by regularly misting the enclosure. However, ensure proper ventilation to prevent mold growth.
- Temperature: Keep the temperature within the range of 24-28°C (75-82°F). You can achieve this with a heat mat on one side of the enclosure if your room temperature is too low, but be careful not to overheat the enclosure.
Feeding
- Diet: Feed your sling small prey items such as fruit flies, pinhead crickets, or small roaches. Offer food 1-2 times a week.
- Water: While slings will often get enough moisture from their food and the enclosure's humidity, offering a shallow water dish or regularly misting one side of the enclosure can ensure they stay hydrated. Make sure the sling can't drown in the dish.
General Care
- Handling: It's best to avoid handling slings due to their fragile nature. If you need to move your spider, gently coax it into a small container.
- Molting: Your spider will molt several times as it grows. During this time, it may refuse food and appear lethargic. Ensure humidity levels are appropriate to support a successful molt and avoid feeding until a few days after the molt to allow its exoskeleton to harden.
- Observation: Regularly check on your sling without disturbing it too much. Look out for mold in the enclosure, uneaten food that needs to be removed, and ensure that the spider is active and appears healthy.
Social Needs
- Birupes simoroxigorum are solitary creatures and should be housed alone. Social interaction with other spiders or pets is not necessary and can be harmful.
