Fat Head Anthias - Widespread West Pacific, known from southern Japan, Indonesia, northern Australia and Coral Sea. Primarily occurs in clear water along drop-offs at moderate depths, of about 20-70m, and usually in caves, sometimes swimming upside-down. Mainly a solitary species but where common it occasionally forms loose aggregations. A deep bodied species with large forked tail, pointed anal fin and elongated rays on pectoral fins. Colour rose-pink with yellow markings, stripes on head, spots on body and yellow streaks in caudal fin . Length to about 85mm, excluding long tail-lobes.
