Description
CB23 Pastel Clown Male
Genetic Background
- Morph: Pastel Clown
- Gender: Male
- Year of Birth: 2023
- Genetics Explained: The Pastel gene enhances yellow and reduces melanin (black pigment), resulting in a brighter snake. The Clown gene produces unique pattern changes, often with a clear head pattern and reduced body patterning. This is a co-dominant (Pastel) and recessive (Clown) combination.
Housing
- Enclosure Size: Start with a 20-gallon tank for juveniles, moving up to a 40-gallon tank or larger for adults to ensure adequate space for movement and enrichment.
- Temperature Gradient: Maintain a cool side at 75-80°F and a warm side at 88-92°F, using under-tank heaters and/or overhead lamps. Always use a thermostat to regulate heating elements and thermometers to monitor temperatures.
- Humidity: Keep humidity levels between 50-60%, with slight increases to around 65-70% during shedding periods to facilitate easy sheds.
- Substrate: Aspen shavings, coconut fiber, or paper towels are recommended. Avoid aromatic woods like cedar or pine.
- Hides: Provide at least two hides (one on the warm side, one on the cool side) for stress reduction and security.
Diet
- Food Items: Offer frozen-thawed rodents appropriate to the snake’s size (the prey should be about the same width as the snake's widest part).
- Feeding Frequency: Juveniles should eat every 5-7 days, while adults can be fed every 10-14 days, adjusting based on the snake’s condition and feeding response.
- Water: Always provide fresh, clean water in a dish large enough for the snake to soak in if it chooses.
