Mimic Tang - Red Stripe - Indian Ocean from Maldives and India to Bali. In Bali it co-occurs with Acanthurus pyroferus. The Pacific mimic surgeonfish. Coastal reef slopes and crests to about 20m depth. Juveniles mimic Centropyge eibli and no other models are known for A.tristis, but may exist. Adults identified by white margin on caudal fin and black eye, usually surrounded by a lighter colour. Length to 20cm.
