Widespread Indo-West Pacific. Various reef habitats, occurring singly, in pairs or small. Identified by the dark spots opposite each other at the ends of the dorsal and anal fin bases, usually with yellow shadowing behind. Eye distinctly blue. Caudal fin yellow in most small juveniles and adults in some populations, depending on locality. Length to about 20cm, but usually smaller.
